Project Search is available to Shawnee Mission School District Students only. SEARCH is a one-year transition from school-to-work program for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The primary objective is to help students develop life and work skills appropriate to earn competitive employment in an inclusive setting. Project SEARCH interns have completed the credits required for graduation from the Shawnee Mission School District. They participate in a vigorous skills assessment day and are rated by members of the Project SEARCH Steering Committee for recommendation to the program at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.

Project SEARCH interns complete three 10-week internships in various departments throughout the hospital. The Project SEARCH Transition-to-Work Program is a unique, business-led, one-year employment preparation program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration and hands-on training through worksite rotations.
